Welcome to the Germanic-American Institute. We are a Minnesota non-profit whose mission is to foster appreciation and understanding of the culture, language, arts, and ongoing history of the German-speaking peoples through public educational and cultural programs.

The GAI is a co-founder and sponsor of the Twin Cities German Immersion School, a public charter located in St.Paul, serving children in kindergarten through 8th grade.

For beginning to advanced students, our spring classes are special!

START German (Beginners)
Classes for beginners are taught in a friendly and intimate setting by instructors who are native speakers or possess near native fluency.

Einfach Besser Deutsch (Intermediate)
Read and review current articles from Deutsch Perfekt. Discuss and practice grammar, vocabulary, and more.

Literatur (Advanced) Das Parfum, Die Geschichte eines Mörders, by Patrick Süskind
Read and discuss this historical fantasy novel which has been translated into 49 languages and has received international critical acclaim.

Climate Smart Municipalities: Minnesota and Germany
Saturday, February 23 | 11 AM–12 PM
Amanda Bednar, environmental coordinator for the city of Elk River, will talk about the Climate Smart Municipalities program, which pairs five Minnesota cities with a German sister city. Learn what communities of different sizes and distinct local governments can do to reduce their carbon footprint, with a focus on climate protection, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and community education. More information
