Architecture and History Tour: Mount Zion Temple

Designed by Erich Mendelsohn, world renowned Jewish-German expressionist architect, the Mount Zion Temple is an iconic building in German, Jewish, and Minnesotan history. Join us for this in-depth tour which explores the life and work Mendelsohn, an overview of the congregation and synagogue’s history (both the oldest in the state of MN), the synagogue’s link to the Reform Movement which parallels Martin Luther's Reformation, a visit to the sanctuary and chapel which include important historical documents, including a Torah, and discussion of Yiddish and how it relates to German.
Attendees can park in the Mount Zion parking lot (adjoined to Kowalski’s) or on Summit Avenue, and meet for the tour in the lobby.
