German Town

Deep in the mountains of Jamaica is a village with a unique history and culture.  The inhabitants are descendants of German with histories that are unknown.  It is speculated that they may have been indentured servants who works Jamaican plantations after the island's slaves were emancipated, possibly runway prisoners, or former soldiers from the Napoleonic Wars.

Director David Ritter returns to the GAI by popular demand again this fall, to discuss the history and contemporary life of Jamaicans of German heritage in his documentary film, GermanTown: The Lost Story of Seaford Town, Jamaica.
