GAI Summer Language Camps 2017
Half-day, Full-Day, and Extended Care Options.
Camp eligibility is based on grade level for 2017 / 2018.
Grades 1-3: Weeks 1-9 (June 19 to Aug. 18)
Kindergarten: Weeks 8 & 9 - German Safari (Aug. 7 to Aug. 18)

The 2017 GAI Summer Language Camp program for children will take place June 19 - August 18 on-site at the GAI. Each camp will last one week (M-F) and is centered around a fun, highly-interactive theme. Beginners to bilingual campers are welcome, as different activities will be offered according to the children's language skills. Teachers and children will speak, hear, sing, and create in German while exploring subjects including art & crafts, photography, geography, nature, cooking, science and mystery.
The $130 ($150 non-members) enrollment fee includes all materials and daily healthy snacks.
Camp is scheduled Monday-Friday* from 9am-12pm. (*except 4th of July week)

All of our camp instructors are professional German teachers & educators with training and experience in teaching German as a foreign language. The GAI is a local non-profit organization committed to providing the highest quality German language instruction at affordable, family-friendly prices.

Week 1: Kleine Künstler (Little Artists)
MALEN & BASTELN (ARTS & CRAFTS)
Find your inner artist and explore different media and techniques each day at this art camp! Children will be exposed to drawing, painting, sculpting, and creating two- and three-dimensional personal pieces of art to take home.
Week 2: Reise um die Erde (Journey around the World)
REISEN & ERDKUNDE (TRAVEL & GEOGRAPHY)
Children will learn about the world - oceans and continents and explore geography, along with different countries, cultures and languages.
Week 3: Das Leben aufgenommen (Life - in pictures)
FOTOGRAFIE & ZEICHNEN (PHOTOGRAPHY & DRAWING)
This camp will feature a mix of photography and observational life drawing. Children will learn how to make their own sketchbooks, do drawings and take pictures and go on a photo scavenger hunt.
Week 4: Die heisse Spur - Junge Detektive (Young Detectives)
GEHEIMNISSE & SCHREIBEN (MYSTERIES & WRITING)
Miss Marple and Sherlock Holmes visit Summit Hill! Learn about the secrets and methods of two famous detectives, solve a mystery and write your own chapter with the help of a real author of detective stories.
Week 5: Das macht Sinn! (That makes sense!)
BIOLOGIE & ERLEBEN (BIOLOGY & EXPERIENCE)
During this camp participants will learn about the five senses, how they work and how you can manage living without one of them.
Week 6: Kinder in der Küche (Kids in the Kitchen)
BACKEN & KOCHEN (BAKING & COOKING)
Back by popular demand! Explore native German dishes, kitchen safety, and nutrition. Children will bring home a sample dish each day as well as a completed cook book at the end of the week that features all of our recipes. Week 7: St. Paul Wanderverein (St. Paul Hiking Club)
UMWELT & ÖKOLOGIE (ENVIRONMENT AND ECOLOGY)
Campers will learn about the local environment and ecology. Activities will include walking and exploring the area to see different natural features common to Minnesota.
Week 8: Reise nach Europa (Trip to Europe)
DEUTSCHSPRACHIGE LÄNDER & LEUTE (GERMAN SPEAKING COUNTRIES & PEOPLE)

Week 9: Sonne, Mond & Sterne (Sun, Moon & Stars)
ASTRONOMIE, GESCHICHTEN & BASTELN (ASTRONOMY, STORIES & CRAFTS)

Weeks 8-9: German Safari
Discover the natural world auf Deutsch with plenty of hands-on activities, crafts, songs and indoor / outdoor play while learning basic German words and vocabulary. This camp will prepare the kids for Kindergarten in the Fall.
2017 Summer Camp Registration
Camps will fill on a first-come, first-served basis. Course fees are due in full at the time of registration, unless other arrangements have been made with Language Services. As camps reach capacity, names can be added to a Wait List.

The GAI offers a limited number of scholarships to children, which will cover 50% of the camp and care costs.

Scholarship applications will be reviewed as they are submitted. Please note, there is a limit to the number of scholarships each participant may receive during a single camp season.
