German Summer Camps 2019

German Language Camps for kids from 5 yrs to 13 yrs
Half-day, Full-Day, and Extended Care Options

NEW THIS YEAR: Intro to German for 5-9 yrs and German & Science for 10-13 yrs

The 2019 GAI German Summer Camp program for children will take place June 17 - August 23 on-site at the GAI. Each camp will last one week (M-F) and is centered around a fun, highly-interactive theme.

German beginners to bilingual campers are welcome, as different activities will be offered according to the children's language skills. Teachers and children will speak, hear, sing, and create in German while exploring subjects including arts & crafts, geography, cooking, science, mystery and more 

WEEKLY CAMP FEES: $130.00 GAI members / $150.00 non-members  
Camp is scheduled Monday-Friday* from 9:00am-12:00pm. (*except 4th of July week) 

  • Early morning drop-off starting at 8:30am at no additional charge (Program begins at 9:00am)
  • Afternoon care from noon to 5:30pm ($120/week). During the afternoon, children will continue to play, read, write, and interact in German. A healthy snack will be provided during the afternoon only

    All of our camp instructors are professional German teachers & educators with training and experience in teaching German as a foreign language. The GAI is a local non-profit organization committed to providing the highest quality German language instruction at affordable, family-friendly prices.

    CAMPS FOR CHILDREN 7-9 yrs

    Week 1: June 17 - June 21, 2019
    JUNGE DETEKTIVE - DIE HEISSE SPUR (Young Detectives) - learn the secrets and methods of famous detectives; write your own story and solve a mystery 

    Week 2: June 24 - June 28, 2019
    FORSCHEN IM WELTALL - SONNE, MOND & STERNE (Research in Space - Sun, Moon and the Stars) - this camp offers a glimpse into the sky; children will learn about space research and travel and astronomy

    Week 3: July 1 - July 3, 2019  (no camp July 4&5)
    GRIMM'S MÄRCHEN (Brother Grimm Fairy Tales) - kids will read and perform popular German fairy tales by the brothers Grimm

    Week 4: July 8 - July 12, 2019  
    DAS MACHT SINN - UNSER KÖRPER & 5 SINNE (That makes sense - our body and 5 senses) - kids explore their five senses, learn how they work, and how people can live without one ... 

    Week 5: July 15 - July 19, 2019  
    KIDS RULE - WIR BAUEN EIN LAND (Kids rule - We build a country) - kids will 'create' a new country, learn what makes it work, and finish the week with a World Expo

    Week 6: July 22 - July 26, 2019  
    REISE UM DIE WELT (Journey around the world) - kids travel the world, explore oceans, continents and geography, and learn about different cultures and languages

    Week 7: July 29 - August 2, 2019 
    WISSENSCHAFT & NATUR - die Umwelt erforschen (Science & Nature - explore the environment) - kids will explore nature and the environment around us, and conduct experiments 

    Week 8: August 5 - August 9, 2019 
    ROBOTIK FÜR KINDER (Robotics for kids) - introduction to robotics for children with hands-on activities and crafts 

    Week 9: August 12 - August 16, 2019 - CAMP FULL
    KINDER IN DER KÜCHE (Kids in the Kitchen) - explore native German dishes and nutrition. Kids will bring home a sample dish each day and a cookbook at the end of the week (We do our best to accommodate children with allergies and NO NUTS will be used. However, dishes may contain gluten, eggs or dairy)

    Week 10: August 19 - August 23, 2019 
    KLEINE KÜNSTLER (Little Artists) - kids find their inner artist and explore different media and techniques each day. Children will draw, paint and sculpt and create their personal pieces of art

    GERMAN & SCIENCE 'MINT' CAMPS for 10-13 yrs

    STEM Camps focus on Renewable Energy. The sessions will include hands-on experiments and crafts and answer questions such as: What is Renewable Energy? What is Solar Power or Wind Energy? How do we use them? What makes Renewable Energy valuable?

    The camps will be taught in German and English to make them accessible to all children. However, there will be a significant German language component, and the kids will learn German words and phrases about solar, wind, and hydro power and renewable energy.

    Registration Information

    Camps will fill on a first-come, first-served basis. Course fees are due in full at the time of registration, unless other arrangements have been made with Language Services. As camps reach capacity, names can be added to a Wait List.

    Refund Policy
    • Camp and afternoon care canceled by the GAI: 100%
    • Prior to the registration deadline: 100%, less a $40 processing fee per child
    • No refunds will be issued less than 1 month before the start of the camp session

    Afternoon Care

    • Afternoon care can be added until the week prior to the scheduled camp. 
    • Afternoon care additions during the week of camp week will be charged the Drop-In rate of $40/day. Payment is due at the time of service.
    Scholarships

    The GAI offers a limited number of scholarships to children, which will cover 50% of the camp and care costs.

    Scholarship applications will be reviewed as they are submitted. Please note, there is a limit to the number of scholarships each participant may receive during a single camp season.
