GAI Summer German Language Camps 2018
Half-day, Full-Day, and Extended Care Options.
Camp eligibility is based on grade level for 2018 / 2019.
Incoming Grades 1-3: Weeks 1-9 (June 18 to Aug. 17)
Incoming Kindergarten: Weeks 8 & 9 - Kids Safari (Aug. 6 to Aug. 17)
The 2018 GAI Summer German Language Camp program for children will take place June 18 - August 17 on-site at the GAI. Each camp will last one week (M-F) and is centered around a fun, highly-interactive theme. German beginners to bilingual campers are welcome, as different activities will be offered according to the children's language skills. Teachers and children will speak, hear, sing, and create in German while exploring subjects including arts & crafts, geography, magic, cooking, science, mystery and more
The $130 member ($150 non-members) enrollment fee includes all materials.
Camp is scheduled Monday-Friday* from 9:00am-12:00pm. (*except 4th of July week)

All of our camp instructors are professional German teachers & educators with training and experience in teaching German as a foreign language. The GAI is a local non-profit organization committed to providing the highest quality German language instruction at affordable, family-friendly prices.
Week 1: Reise um die Erde (Journey around the World)
June 18 - June 22, Grades 1-3 - Register by May 18
REISEN & ERDKUNDE (TRAVEL & GEOGRAPHY)
Children will learn about the world - oceans and continents and explore geography, along with different countries, cultures and languages.
Week 2: Sonne, Mond & Sterne (Sun, Moon & Stars)
June 25 - June 29, Grades 1-3 - Register by May 25
ASTRONOMIE & BASTELN (ASTRONOMY & CRAFTS)
This camp will offer a glimpse into the sky - the children will learn about astronomy, hear stories and use arts & crafts to create stars, planets and spacecraft!
Week 3: Deutsche Märchen & Geschichten (Fairy Tales & Stories)
2 & 2 Camp - July 2 & 3 and July 5 & 6 - Grades 1-3 - Register by June 2 (Register for 2 days only - or register for 4 days; $60.00 for 2 days)
GESCHICHTEN & LEGENDEN (STORIES & LEGENDS)
Kids will read & listen to traditional German tales and stories. Who is Frau Holle, and have you heard abut Max & Moritz and Struwwelpeter?
Week 4: H2Ohhh - Was ist Wasser? (What is Water)
July 9 - July 13, Grades 1-3 - Register by June 9
Experimente & Spass (Experiments & Fun)
The kids will conduct basic water science experiments, collect and measure local water samples, talk about water from different water sources, and discuss how water impacts the environment
Week 5: Kleine Künstler (Little Artists)
July 16 - July 20, Grades 1-3 - Register by June 15
MALEN & BASTELN (ARTS & CRAFTS)
Find your inner artist and explore different media and techniques each day at this art camp! Children will be exposed to drawing, painting, sculpting, and creating two- and three-dimensional personal pieces of art to take home.
Week 6: Harry Potter
July 23 - July 27, Grades 1-3 - Register by June 23
WISSENSCHAFT & MAGIE (SCIENCE & MAGIC)
Spend a week at Hogwarts! Children will learn about topics like Herbology, Potions, Divination, and play Quidditch. They will practice measurements and team building, all while sparking their interest in reading & storytelling.
Week 7: Die heisse Spur - Junge Detektive (Young Detectives)
July 30 - Aug. 3, Grades 1-3 - Register by June 30
GEHEIMNISSE & SCHREIBEN (MYSTERIES & WRITING)
Miss Marple and Sherlock Holmes visit Summit Hill! Learn about the secrets and methods of two famous detectives, solve a mystery and write your own chapter with the help of a real author of detective stories.
.Week 8: Kinder in der Küche (Kids in the Kitchen)
Aug. 6 - Aug. 10, Grades 1-3 - Register by July 6
BACKEN & KOCHEN (BAKING & COOKING)
Back by popular demand! Explore native German dishes, kitchen safety, and nutrition. Children will bring home a sample dish each day as well as a completed cook book at the end of the week that features all of our recipes. (NOTE - We do our best to accommodate children with allergies and NO NUTS will be used, but dishes may contain gluten, eggs or dairy)
Week 9: Das macht Sinn (That makes sense)
Aug 13 - Aug 17, Grades 1-3 - Register by July 13
BIOLOGIE & ERLEBEN (Biology & Experiments)
Children will learn, explore and experience their five senses, how they work, and how people can manage living without one of them
Weeks 8-9: Kids Safari
This camp will prepare kids to enter Kindergarten. Discover the natural world auf Deutsch with hands-on activities, crafts, songs and indoor / outdoor play while learning basic German words and vocabulary.

Camps will fill on a first-come, first-served basis. Course fees are due in full at the time of registration, unless other arrangements have been made with Language Services. As camps reach capacity, names can be added to a Wait List.

The GAI offers a limited number of scholarships to children, which will cover 50% of the camp and care costs.

Scholarship applications will be reviewed as they are submitted. Please note, there is a limit to the number of scholarships each participant may receive during a single camp season.
