SAMSTAGSSCHULE for young children & Preteen (Age 4 yrs to 12 yrs)

The emphasis of the GAI language program for children is natural acquisition of language in an interactive, fun environment. Our classes follow a framework which incorporates listening & speaking, singing and crafts, games and physical motion, and story time. For the older kids and intermediate level word lessons and reading / writing activities will be included as well. The children interact with and learn about German culture as they build their language skills.

PLEASE NOTE - some classes require textbooks - you can select & pay for the materials when you register for the class.

Various levels are offered

  • FUN WITH GERMAN - Preschool/KG/1st grade (Age 4-6; all levels)  German Class for children who do no read or write yet. Class will focus on games, play & music for young children. (Class will use KIKUS class materials - no additional charge)  
  • GERMAN FOR KIDS (Age 7-9) - BEGINNER Children with minimal or no prior exposure to German will acquire basic communication skills and general vocabulary pertaining to the topics presented. (Class will use 'Hallo Anna' textbooks; $30.00 additional charge)
  • GERMAN FOR KIDS (Age 7-9) - ADVANCED  At the Immersion Level the class activities will be conducted primarily in German, with emphasis on oral language development. Vocabulary, basic grammar and reading / writing lessons will be included as well. For children who are able to communicate in German. (Class will use 'Hallo Anna' textbooks; $30.00 additional charge)
  • GERMAN FOR PRETEEN (Age 10-12; all levels)  German Class for pre-teen kids. Some word lessons and reading / writing activities will be included. The children interact with and learn about German culture as they build their language skills.(Class will use 'Der grüne Max' textbooks; $30.00 additional charge)


The classes focus on creating and developing German language skills for teens. The instructors build listening comprehension and speaking skills in a fun and interactive, and age appropriate environment.

  • German for Teens (Beginner) - Introduction to German for students who have no or limited prior knowledge. The course covers basic topics such as weather, sports & hobbies, school, current events and culture. Learning is done through formal instruction but also games, songs, and storytelling which is more suited to younger learners' natural language development. (Class materials provided by teacher) 
  • German for Teens (Intermediate A1-A2) - For students who have taken 1-2 years of German classes. Course is designed to build on existing language skills. Sessions will explore current events, literature and work on expanding vocabulary & grammar skills. (Class will use 'Planet' textbooks; $50.00 additional charge) 

ADVANCED GERMAN FOR High School Students

TEEN TREFF: For students with a high level of proficiency & fluency, or who have lived in a German speaking country, or graduated from TCGIS. Class will focus on teen topics & themes but also include grammar and vocabulary review. Goal is to maintain fluency and skills with limited assignments & homework. Class meets bi-weekly for 10 sessions. 

TEENS INTENSIV: For advanced students who want to continue building language ability and skills. Course format 'blended' with 90min. of classroom instruction per week and online / independent study. (Class will use 'Aspekte' textbooks, $50.00 additional charge)


Further Information

While your child has fun learning German, you can enjoy Kaffeestube in the main building! Both the Kaffeestube and the library will be open Saturday mornings while Samstagsschule is in session. Check out a children’s book or movie, or just enjoy a chat with other parents.

Classes open with a minimum of 5 students. 


The GAI offers a limited number of scholarships to children, which will cover 50% of the tuition cost. Download the application HERE
