Classical Music Highlights – Beethovenjahr 2020 
It would be impossible to showcase all of the contributions of composers and musicians from German-speaking countries in the classical music world, but one of the best known is being celebrated this year. The year 2020 is the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s birth. Born in Bonn, Germany, Beethoven is one of the most frequently performed of all classical composers. For “Beethoven 2020,” many musical organizations have come together with a unique series of concerts and events. Learn more:

Contemporary
From the global hit 99 Luftballons by Nena, to the hard-rock band Rammstein and more, Germany’s contemporary rock and pop music has been influencing musicians around the world for decades. German broadcaster Deutsche Welle Kultur’s “top ten” lists of German pop singers and rock bands is a great place to start listening.

Clubs
Germany today is home to some of the most exciting and innovative DJs and clubs. During the COVID-19 pandemic, clubs from Berlin to Hamburg and beyond have come together to present “United We Stream”—broadcasts of live DJ sets and performances every day.

Accordion
The accordion is one of the most popular instruments in the world. First patented by C. Friedrich L. Buschmann in Berlin in 1822, the accordion has grown to be a beloved instrument in folk music and large concert halls.
