SAMSTAGSSCHULE for young kids through preteen (4 - 12 yrs)

The emphasis of the GAI language program for kids & teens is natural acquisition of language in an interactive, fun environment. Our classes follow a framework which incorporates singing & crafts, games & physical motion, and story time for the younger kids. For the older kids and intermediate level the focus will be on word lessons & speaking, and reading / writing activities will be included as well. The children interact with and learn about German culture as they build their language skills.

PLEASE NOTE - some classes require textbooks - you can select & pay for the materials when you register for the class.

Various levels are offered:

  • FUN WITH GERMAN  (Age 4-6) all levels German Class for young children who do not read or write yet. Class will focus on games, play & music for young children. (Class will use KIKUS class materials - no additional charge) 
  • GERMAN FOR KIDS (Age 7-9) - BEGINNER Children with minimal or no prior exposure to German will acquire basic communication skills and general vocabulary pertaining to the topics presented. Basic reading & writing skills required. (Class uses 'Hallo Anna' textbooks; $30.00 addt'l charge)        
  • GERMAN FOR KIDS (Age 7-9) - ADVANCED  At the Immersion Level the class activities will be conducted primarily in German, with emphasis on oral language development. Vocabulary, basic grammar, and reading / writing lessons will be included as well. For children who are already able to communicate in German. (Class uses 'Hallo Anna' textbooks; $30.00 addt'l charge)                  
  • GERMAN FOR PRETEENS (Age 10-12) - BEGINNER German Class for pre-teen kids. Some word lessons and reading / writing activities will be included. The children interact with and learn about German culture as they build their language skills. (Class uses 'Der grüne Max' textbooks; $30.00 addt'l charge) 
  • GERMAN FOR PRETEENS (Age 10-12) - ADVANCED German Class for pre-teen kids who have taken the beginner class or who already know some German. The course will continue to build on the skills learned in previous classes. (Class uses 'Der grüne Max' textbooks; $30.00 addt'l charge)


WINTER / SPRING SESSION BEGINS JANUARY 12, 2019 AND ENDS MAY 18

  • Begin by setting up an account for you (and your family) - be sure to enter all family members who will attend classes 
  • If you already have a Community Root Account click the link above and log in 
    • Next, select the person(s) you want to register and submit & continue
    • You can register multiple household members with the same transaction, but keep in mind all will show up  in the same course
  • On the PROGRAMS page you click on the categories or programs drop down  
    • Choose Kids & Teens or scroll through the list displaying all the choices 
    • You can also join the GAI or renew your membership! Simply select the the membership level 
  • Select the course for registration 
    • Review your selection(s) on the calendar view 
  • On the next page click the 'Member' button If you are a current member, just signed up or renewed  your membership
  • If a textbook is indicated for the class you can select to purchase it on the next page (No purchase required if you already have the book or want to purchase it elsewhere
  • After you have reviewed and confirmed your choices enter your payment information - Credit Card or Bank Account - THIS IS A SECURE SITE - and finish your registration!

Further Information

While your child has fun learning German, you can enjoy Kaffeestube in the main building! Both the Kaffeestube and the library are open Saturday mornings while Samstagsschule is in session. Check out a children’s book or movie, or just enjoy a chat with other parents.

Course fees are due in full on the first day of the class, unless other arrangements have been made with Language Services. Refunds for tuition only are made upon request as follows:

Classes open with a minimum of 5 students. 


Scholarships

The GAI offers a limited number of scholarships to children, which will cover 50% of the tuition cost. Download the application HERE
