Subject: Germanic-American Institute Closure as of March 16

Dear Friends of the Germanic-American Institute,

Due to continuing concerns for public health related to the COVID-19 virus, the Germanic-American Institute has temporarily closed to the public as of Monday, March 16. Language classes are currently suspended and will resume online the week of March 23. All GAI events will be cancelled at least through April 30 during the closure. We will continue to evaluate and update our operating status as we receive further guidance from health officials. Please note that both Kinderstube Preschool locations will close in alignment with the Minnesota public schools from March 18–27, and will remain closed during the planned Spring Break March 30–April 3.

Beginning Monday, March 23 all current language classes will transition to online / live video format during the GAI closure. If you are enrolled in a current language class, please look for an email with information from your instructor. We are also pleased to be able to keep registration open for START 1-2-3, SPRING SPEZIAL, and SUMMER CAMPS.

Language classes beginning in April will proceed as scheduled, but may be delayed if necessary, or offered in online / live video format until it is safe to resume in-person sessions. Please contact our language services department with any questions about our current and future offerings at language@gai-mn.org or leave a message at 651-222-2979. We look forward to continuing to offer high-quality German language classes to students.

We are grateful for our community of members, students, volunteers, and visitors that make the GAI a unique gathering and learning space for all. Your well-being and safety remain our highest priority, and we hope to welcome you back to the Haus as soon as circumstances allow.

We will continue to post updates on our website and social media, but please do not hesitate to reach out directly to our team with any questions or concerns. Thank you for your continued understanding and support.

Sincerely,

Jeana Anderson, Executive Director
