Fall Session for Samstagsschule will begin Sept. 23 and run through December - REGISTRATION will open in July

SAMSTAGSSCHULE for young children (Age 4 to 4th Grade)

The emphasis of the GAI language program for children is natural acquisition of language in an interactive, fun environment. Our classes follow a framework which incorporates listening & speaking, singing and crafts, games and physical motion, and story time. For the older kids and Advanced level some word lessons and reading / writing activities will be included as well. The children interact with and learn about German culture as they build their language skills.

Various levels are offered at the Beginner and Advanced (Immersion) level.

  • BEGINNER  - German for Kids - Beginner (Age 4 to 4th grade) - Children with minimal or no prior exposure to German will acquire basic communication skills and general vocabulary pertaining to the topics presented. Simple worksheets with reading and writing will be provided to reinforce skills throughout the week.
  • ADVANCED - German for Kids - Advanced (Age 4 to 4th grade) - At the Immersion Level the class activities will be conducted primarily in German, with emphasis on oral language development. Vocabulary, basic grammar and reading / writing lessons will be included as well. Recommended for children who are able to communicate in German.

The classes focus on creating and developing German language skills for teens. The instructors build listening comprehension and speaking skills in a fun and interactive, and age appropriate environment.

Three levels are available for Beginner, Intermediate & Advanced students.

Intermediate and Advanced Levels will use the PLANET - Deutsch für Jugendliche textbooks (materials can be purchased during registration)

  • German for Teens (Beginner) - Introduction to German for students who have no or limited prior knowledge. The course covers basic topics such as weather, sports & hobbies, school, current events and culture. Learning is done through formal instruction but also games, songs, and storytelling which is more suited to younger learners' natural language development.
  • German for Teens (Intermediate A1-A2) - Course is designed to build on existing language skills. Sessions will explore current events, literature and work on expanding vocabulary & grammar skills.
  • German for Teens (Advanced B1) - The course continues to develop language, grammar and conversation skills. With completion of the B1 coursework the student can take the Goethe exam and obtain the B1 Goethe Zertifikat.
